On the illuminated modern floors in the heart of the Cour Carree of the Louvre, Raf Simons for Christian Dior shows his modern take on 18th Century style.
Using both men and women’s styles as his muse, he revamps them into sleek, feminine pieces. Whilst drawing on the 18th Century trend for whale bone skirts, a the 2015 version is rounded, with the thickness of the fabric creating a bubble outline.
Other pieces took inspiration from men’s wear and riding coats, with leather trench jackets, and floral skirt dresses.
Glance southwards and you will see models wearing the Dior “sock boots”. This unusual footwear consists of heeled boots worn under grandadesque men’s socks, looking more country-posh than the usual glamour of Dior. As the trendsetter Dior is, we can expect to see these wooly quirks everywhere come 2015.
