Rochas SS15 collection ticked all of the boxes this season, making this ready-to-wear body of work one to keep a firm, fixed eye on. Mixing texture? Check. Found in sheer, light as air fabrics clashed with heavier embroidery and delicate silk. Merging trends? Check. Pretty, feminine shapes, floaty skirts and blouses toughened up with sharp collars and R emblems for a sport luxe edge. Risk appeal? Check. The bodices were very, very sheer.
Described by the designer himself, this collection was rather “mix and match”, yet it surprisingly worked effortlessly. The models floated down the Paris runway, beautifully elegant but sophisticated and powerful. With floor length gowns, waist synching kimonos and innocent sheer panelling strengthened by unexpected sports socks and belts. Lace, stripe and incredible detailing were all present in this world wind collection of feminine sex appeal - in the most innocent of ways.
A neutral palette kept things muted and on point, but the pops of gold glistening against solid black tulle petticoats, and almost iridescent white macs reminded us all that this is fashion at it’s most exciting. When things that shouldn't work, work, you know you’ve done well.
Thumbs up Rochas, thumbs up.
