Bernard Chandran SS15

Another London Fashion week and we survived it ! The press team deserve a lie-in after this buzzy, busy , frantic period.

Designer Bernard Chandran's  SS 2015 collection was a firm favourite of mine. This Malaysian designer recently became the first non-European to win the Open European contest for ‘Look of the Year 2000’. Lady Gaga frequently wears Chandran's garments and of course he has a huge fan base in the Far East.

His collection at the show was quintessentially futuristic with many silhouette structures and oversized above knee cuts.  The runway was filled with a chaotic, chic urban look accompanied by abundant glamour. Many of the three dimensional, pencil styled dresses were embellished in strong, emerald gems, a lot of royal Pahang silk which is coated in lurex was also used. Some of the seam and hem lines were finished with jewels and glimmering precious stones. The tiaras proved popular, they complemented the unique slip-on, resilient day-to-day, sleeveless metallic waistcoat dresses. The innovative great funnel neck leather jackets with floor length paneling raised eyebrows.  I got a glimpse of some of the PVC strips, these were clearly built on delicate features under thin meshed veils, high collars and scuba zips.  A heavy use of digitally printed faces/images were used, Bernard's use of stripes and polkadots was very creative and unexpected. This pretty spring summer palette was made up of metallic fuchsia and opulent emerald gemstone and yellowish shades as well as utilitarian staple  nudes, white, black and orange hues I did see a few smidgens of cobalt blue in there too.

The overall style of the cuts were  brocade and slightly androgynous.  Nude make-up and bronze-toned highlighter on the models helped reflect the shiny tresses, white lipstick and sheen fabrics. All in all a good collection drawing on a futuristic, pseudo-urban melange. Where the space buggy at ?
