At Nicole Miller Fall 2014, tough fabrics and earthy tones came together to create an armour fit for a modern female warrior. The natural world – in its darkest shades – dominated the catwalk where models dressed in fur coats, peacock feathers and leather separates walked fiercely, their eyes ringed in black. There’s no doubt that these are clothes designed for a strong, independent woman, or at least somebody who wants to feel like her.
Miller’s ability to maintain a clear direction was once again evident, with not a single detail looking like it may belong somewhere else. Slick, intricately knotted up-dos in keeping with the natural theme allowed all eyes to focus entirely on the clothes. The tight trousers, draped dressed and textured layers, which were mostly black in colour, was broken up by futuristic animal-like prints in metallic hues of red, blue and silver. Although pieces were all heavy and dark, the collection is still extremely feminine thanks to the polished overall look, finished with chunky jewellery, metallic embroidery and solid black heels.
