Crowds were dazzled and in complete awe of the exotic array of beauty and brains at last night's long awaited, 72nd annual Golden Globe awards ceremony in the Beverly Hills hotel in LA. The crowds waited in anticipation of the gowns and dresses which normally are bestowed upon the fans at celebs' point of arrival.
Amal Alamuddin Clooney, the world famous British-based Human Rights lawyer of Lebanese origin walked along the red carpet in a floor-sweeping, black, curve-hugging, one-shouldered gown with a silk draped overlay.
This marvellous Dior haute couture creation was accessorised with elbow-reaching, white gloves and Harry Winston jewels. Her glamour and elegance and charm captured the crowd's attention. Amal is also an author and activist in her own right. The nearly 40-year old beauty really separates the women from the girls. No offence to Miley Cyrus ! Heaps of emotional intelligence, class, and confidence. Amal has followed in the footsteps of her accomplished mother who is the Foreign editor of the pan-Arab newspaper Al Hayat (my favourite Arabic word, meaning life. Arab men often refer to their wives as their life...gush), Amal means 'hope' by the way.
I am very pleased to say that Amal is a member of the multidisciplinary team of experts on preventing sexual violence established on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office @foreignoffice on Twitter (British Foreign Ministry). Makes me proud to work for an organisation which champions global social causes.
Moving on to another remarkable (Mexican-born of Lebanese extract) lady. Actress Salma Hayek arrived in a bold, Alexander McQueen Ivory brocade bustier gown teamed up with a sultry, metallic grey belt. Her cuff bracelet really added some edge to the outfit and the feather earrings unexpectedly worked quite well. Salma is also a film producer and director. This International Relations graduate's mother is an Opera singer. Her paternal grandfather is from Lebanon and he named her when she was born, Salma means 'peaceful' and 'calm' in Arabic. Salma is also dyslexic. Sticking with Mexico let's move on to Lupita Nyong'o.
Actress and style icon Lupita stunned us with a purpleish-mauve Giambattista Valli haute couture dress which featured floral-like petals at the bodice section and a flowing chiffon ombre skirt, her snazzy, Judith Lieber clutch bag stole the spotlight as she beamed and gave us her profound, signatory smile. Lupita was adorned with glamorous Chopard jewelry and walked on the red carpet in a pair of Christian Louboutins. The Yale Masters graduate has just finished filming Star Wars. Lupita was born in Mexico and is of Kenyan origin in 2014 she was voted the most beautiful woman of the year (Mags: Glamour and People). Lupita's father was a University lecturer of Political science in Mexico City, her mother is CEO of two companies.
Lupita speaks fluent Swahili and Spanish.Whilst we are on the topic of Spanish. Jennifer Lopez (or should we still call her JLO ? Let me know - that rhymes !) stepped on to the long, red carpet in a dazzling, figure hugging, silver Zuhair Murad gown, this was teamed up with Stuart Weitzman's 'Nudist' sandals and a Jimmy Choo 'Mini Tube' clutch bag. Jennifer Lopez needs no introductions.
This nearly 50 year old Puerto Rican American beauty again separated the women from the girls (no offence Selina Gomez !). Her arrival was jaw-dropping. Her gown had a matching cape and she sported her usual caramel highlighted tresses and diamante, bling-styled jewelry. The plunging neckline formed a V shape which nearly reached her navel. The cleavage-baring dress was made up of intricate, sequins which accentuated her perfect, bronzed skin. I think this dress, was by far the best on the night, in terms of cut, pattern and shape. Last but not least and talking of shape (great to see more diverse body shapes for women, stick thin is so 2013) let's discuss Chrissy Teigen's dress.
Chrissy Teigen stepped out of her limo on to the rolled out carpet in an amazing, pinkish, white, nude Zuhair Murad dress. Chrissy in true emotionally charged, tearful American delivery (think Oprah ...deep) struggled to hold back the tears when her famous singer husband John Legend won the best original song for the Golden Globe. Chrissy's 'cry face' is still being tweeted as I write. The sports wear model's sparkling and embellished gown's luxe sheer panels were bold but elegant, her Harry Kotlar diamonds stood out against her tantalizing, bronze skin, simple nude lips and caramel brown highlights, which seem to be making a come back. Chrissy's father is from Norway and her mother is Thai. She is an avid cook and loves to write.
The Fashon Thirst team always marvel at the Golden Globe awards ceremonies, we are particularly pleased at the level of diversity at this year's annual event we have been to Lebanon/UK, Mexico, Kenya, Puerto Rico, Thailand and Norway. The migration of peoples is certainly enriching of the American Hollywood tapestry. Accomplished and diverse beauties with brains.
