Haute Couture fashion week in Paris came to an end this week. It was spectacular and exhibitionist. Talk of the town was Gaultier's unconventional mode/focus on Papillion fused punk outfits. His collection was enourmously popular. The 2014 range was comprised of corsets with butterfly wings, denim vests with bejewelled spiky crystals and leather biker jackets come bustiers trimmed with custom and patch-worked Swarowski studding.

Gaultier transformed the catwalk into a butterfly sanctuary it felt like London' s tropical section of Kew Gardens in the summer. Butterfly-wings peaked from the model' shoulders, high-waisted tuxedos and mermaid skirts received rounds of applause. Dita Von Tesse modeled some of his insect-winged outfits. The palette was exciting and varied; an array of plums to teal blue and black glossy leather. Au revoir Paris we are now heading towards the Big Ben clock. London Fashion week is around the corner.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday was another red carpet event worth watching.
New 'it' girl Lupita Nyong'o showed off a bright turquoise form-fitting Gucci gown with a floral embellished neckline, she also sported some Fred Leighton jewellery. Whilst Jennifer Lawrence another name that we will hear much about in 2014 wore a strapless sequinned Dior gown and black satin platform heeled shoes. Both turned up with equally dazzling smiles, elegance and beauty.

The Atelier Versace Spring 2014 Haute Couture collection was very clearly inspired by two of the most powerful females in showbiz: Grace Jones and Lady Gaga. Arriving alongside a hooded Lady Gaga, the face of the spring advertising campaign, Donatella got Couture Week off to a very elegant start.

The designer combined sheer tulle panels and cut out designs with silk and jersey fabrics, adding a finishing touch of glamour with beaded details. Embellished with Swarovski crystals, the dresses were gracefully draped to create a sleek but powerful silhouette with thigh-high splits, while the rich colours were broken up by glitter, fur and tattoo-style embroidery. As the models strutted down the catwalk to Lady Gaga’s ‘Donatella’ – a song inspired by the designer from her recent ‘Artpop’ album - and ‘Born This Way’, their hooded dresses paid homage to 80s icon Grace Jones.
A collection that screams ‘goddess’ and ‘diva’ in equal measure, the floor-sweeping gowns were a perfect combination of sexy and glamorous and guaranteed to be seen all over the red carpet this spring.

There is so much buzz about the recent annual Golden Globe awards. January's ceremony had every tongue wagging in every quarter of the Globe. Fashion Thirst faves were Rocsi Diaz's sleeveless picot strip, champagne-coloured constructed J.Mendel organza gown. Her nude make-up and simple hairstyle worked well and we adore her oval clutch bag.
We particularly liked Australian actress Margot Robbie's outfit. Margot is the biggest breakout star of the moment who acted in the 'Wolf Of Wall Street' film. She donned a cream Gucci gown with a high slit and slightly greenish crystal details. We loved the detail.
Our main favourite was sweetheart, Yale educated Lupita. This lady with the amazing smile is another newcomer - full name Lupita Nyong'o. She was nominated for best supporting actress in '12 Years A Slave', her fitted red Ralph Lauren gown with caped sleeves really stood out and captivated the onlookers. A perfect crimson red clean silhouette complimented her awesome close-cropped coif hair style; dramatic but simple at the same time. We can't wait to see more of Lupita. Now it's time for the Fashion Thirst team think about the up and coming Grammies. Excited, can't wait ! Are you ?

So Milan's men's fashion week has ended but I couldn't complain about the abundance of chiseled cheeked men who paraded along the catwalk. Lest not forget that Milan is the fashion capital of Europe (then Paris, and then London - in that order) home to the big, Italian trademark fashion houses and established designers. The Versace collection show over the weekend was aesthetically rewarding. The vast array of western-cut shirting exuded steel-like confidence, with an air of flamboyance. The leathers were strong and masculine.
The clothes alternated between a cowboy look , sharp bright suits and an American rock'n'roll biker range. There were plenty of cowboy boots embossed with smidgens of Gold. Most of the jeans on display were pre-greased with oily prints. I won't describe the leather codpiece - it made me blush !

I sensed that the collection's emphasis was based on functionality, practicalities and the outdoor life ironically in an age where craft and DIY skills are dying. Most things are outsourced. The textures used were strong and durable especially the cashmeres and wild West ponyskins. This was a stern, masculine, practical and functional collection. The luxury styled suits were neatly cut - one of the favourites being the petrol Navy suit which was teamed up with a typical Versace styled shirt underneath. The red outfit was eye-catching, the long cashmere cardigan certainly looked warm and the flamboyant design along the red jeans epitomised Versace's incessant use of floral and paisley style patterns. We expect nothing but dazzle from Donatella Versace, the dazzle lives on.
