Last week Dolores Cortes put two fingers up at the painful Spanish economic recession. The Barcelona-based fashion line presented its edgy, jungle, punk-infused swim wear and bikini collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The Raleigh hotel in Miami was full of body hugging, bikini clad beach bum swim wear models; a much needed deflection from the current 'stand your ground' media frenzy. Most models sported dramatic eye make-up, tossled, textured and wavy hair. Large gold, hand made luxe enamel necklaces adorned their slender necks. The cheers from onlookers became louder when the triangle bikini with gold studs paraded up and down the runway. Fashion Thirst's press team were all in agreement about the 'two suits' swimming costume come bikini (visually a bikini from behind and a swimming costume from the front - they are called 'Monokinis'). The bright tassled-fringes, lace trim, low-cut and plunging neck line with rain forest type attached three dimensional cut-out flowers made us excited. The bold colours and graphics put us in the holiday mood. South Beach witnessed the 'Esperanza', creativity and resilience of the Spanish. Cortes's collection was well received.

Oliver Spencer’s SS14 collection was an aesthetical treat at Monday’s London Collection: Men’s catwalk presentation. Inspired by American neo-expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Spencer used bleached graffiti splashings on relaxed tailored suiting pieces in taupes, nudes, creams and blues – creating an artistic canvas of colour and texture.A casual pinstriped faded red suite and jacket co-ord, the playful experimentation of prints, checks and stripes across various fabric bases really appealed to the brand’s loyal and daring fan base.

Celebrities were out in full force, including actor Idris Elba on the decks, guests David Gandy and Jesse Metcalfe in the front row and UK rapper Wretch 32 who closed the show in a crisp Amber suit.

Originally “You Must Create” YMC could also stand for “Young Man’s Clothing”, as a youthful masculinity were central to the fresh SS14 collection. The playful designs were complimented by the trendy young audience, which included Harley from Rizzle Kicks, Reggie Yates and Connor Maynard. The collection took inspiration from punk, with oversize spot patterns, graffiti paint strokes and animal prints.

Light-weight fabrics add functionality to items like this sky-blue jacket, whilst minimal silhouettes give a masculine aesthetic.
Ankle skimming trousers are a key feature to look out for in SS14 menswear, and YMC’s take on this trend includes ankle cuffs with ties.

The red and navy stripes on these separates are playfully boyish, laid-back and exemplify the preppy edge of the collection!

Magnetic forces clasp together blazers and cardigans in this collection truly inspired by the forces and energies of our galaxy. The show started with Andriod-esque creams and earthy colours, with a strong focus on (very) deep v-necks and tunic panelled tops. The second half of the show was a lot more colourful as a supernova of purples and reds created swirling patterns and stripes across the garments. Other key features include plastic breast plates and iridescent petrol coloured fabric.
The futuristic theme runs through many of the shows seen on the opening day of London Collections: Men, from the clinical sci-fi in Lou Dalton to the quirky sportswear in Astrid Anderson. Other themes emerging from the first day are seventies tailoring in Jonathan Saunders and embroiderd silk shirts on the Topman catwalk.
Kwok’s show is the second show presented by GQ China at London Collections: Men, representing the growing importance of Chinese menswear and the prominence of London as a destination for international designers to showcase their work.
