In the realm of avant-garde elegance, the London-born phenomenon curated by the visionary Foday Dumbuya unveils its mystique with a name steeped in sophistication, drawing inspiration from the Latin essence of 'having an edge.' Enter the ethereal realm of Labrum, where fashion transcends mere garments and becomes an odyssey of style and identity – the Spring/Summer 24 collection, a veritable migration of sartorial splendor.
Picture a runway adorned with clean, tailored silhouettes, kissed by the audacious embrace of texture and print. Labrum's stellar showcase at London Fashion Week 2023, baptized as the Nomoli Odyssey: A Migration of Style and Identity, was an evocative celebration echoing the rich histories of Liberia and Sierra Leone. This transcendent experience unfolded with meticulous flair and palpable emotion, a testament to the creative genius at play.
As the recipient of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design, Labrum unfurled a narrative of cultural resilience through meticulously crafted ensembles. The Four Seasons Hotel in Ten Trinity Square provided the opulent backdrop for this sartorial spectacle, where the vocal tapestry of Battersea-born Tawiah, harmonizing with the melodic piano prowess of Karim Kamar, guided the audience through an immersive journey.
Embarking on a creative pilgrimage rooted in West African folktales, Dumbuya conjured a tapestry of Nomoli figurines, their mystique interwoven into fabrics or intricately embroidered onto trench coats. Raffia and frayed fabrics made bold statements, paying homage to traditional masquerade attire. Vibrant patterns, inspired by Mende and Temne tribal masks, danced across the runway, revealing a saga of transformative journeys akin to the diaspora of immigrants in the 1970s.
A nod to the diverse and dynamic cultural stimuli of London birthed a narrative that transcends time and borders, weaving a tale of a rich and multi-dimensional heritage. The runway opened with the charismatic presence of former Arsenal player Ian Wright, and a collaborative trackset with Top Boy graced the mid-way point. The runway saw the likes of Unknown T and Wretch 32, embodying the essence of Labrum's avant-garde spirit.
In a masterstroke of creativity, Dumbuya highlighted the historical resonance of the Port of London Authority HQ – now the Four Seasons – drawing inspiration from the journeys of work-seeking migrants traversing through its hallowed grounds. The result? A runway location that not only showcased Labrum's impeccable craftsmanship but also paid homage to the interconnected threads of history, culture, and style that define this transcendent label.

This season Gyunel showcased her latest couture collection, a vibrant display of 90’s nostalgia and romantic grunge looks. The designer, originally from an artistic background completed her education at Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion. Gyunel is known for her transitional style of design, using prints created from her oil paintings which are then transformed into fashion looks ready for the catwalk.
This unique application of creativity is merged with elegant craftsmanship and timeless designs. The luxury couture brand was founded in 2005 and has since built a strong international client base working on an appointment-only basis.
The latest SS20 looks reinforce a teenage spirit, exhibiting strong 90s references to punk and grunge which are carried through the collection. The use of royal blue, black and metallic fabrics could be seen alongside a range of silhouettes from full-length gowns, fitted body con dresses and boxy denim jackets. Swarovski embellishments and the use of transparent fabrics like organza gave the range a sassy glamours look. A unique glitzy denim co-ord and a baby pink halter neck bustier dress stood out from the collection, styled with Doc Martins providing a princess rocker vibe to this seasons looks.
Overall Gyunel’s collection was a unique display of couture artistry, combining a range of classic designs and reinforcing the designer's recognisable skills in painting and couture fashion.

The Italian fashion brand, ICEBERG brought us a vibrant and memorable collection inspired by 1980s pop culture and a fresh interpretation of a positive rebellious movement for SS20.
Held during London Fashion Week Men's at The Truman Brewery with a number of celebrity guests in attendance. Uk rappers Chip, Lethal Bizzle, Donae'o, Ms. Banks and DJ Siobhan Bell were all spotted front row.
Models walked down a jet black runway wearing relaxed sportswear, Tailored suites, Double denim, colour blocking silhouettes and eye-catching graphics by Peter Blake. Accessorised with Linda Farrow shades and chunky sneakers.
James Long, creative director demonstrated a youthful vibe which was carried throughout the collection mixed with a hyper colour pallet. Making The latest looks by ICEBERG perse and easily wearable, ideal for the confident fashion focused youth of today.

Over the past 20 years Ziad has grown from strength to strength and has consistently managed to make shockingly original and beautiful feminine Couture that looks like nothing else in the land of fashion. Ziad grew up in Lebanon and identifies as a design libertarian, showing his Couture in Paris for the past 6 seasons has taught him some valuable lessons and got him on the radar of mainline fashionistas internationally.
Ziad does not focus on what anyone else does, and he certainly doesn’t follow any trend or fad, he concentrates perfecting his aesthetic which has been perfected year on year.
Which in-turn makes his designs almost unaffected, making everything he touches become somehow more original by the season.
Dressed immaculately the elegant designer is both undeniably handsome and yet has a nonchalant care free attitude over him, he carries himself with a combined sense of boyish charm whilst being extremely humble.
Ziad has a strong social conscience and you can see for him making beautiful clothes is what drives him to make the world a better place.
In recent years the brand has become one of the most talked-about (and imitated) labels in fashion. One might say the outsider artist has become a consummate insider.

So how did the Ziad Nakad Couture label begin?
Ziad Nakad:
- Since my early teens, I was attracted to fashion, to the eccentric fabrics, sheer embroideries and unconventional beadings, it was from there that I started to sketch designs for my family and friends.
What was the story behind your last Couture collection?
- It was Inspired from high jewellery and precious stones, I would describe this collection as charming, sexy and femine, and also very fresh. What makes this collection so special is the special cuts of the shoulders and ruffles.I chose “Orion” as the collection name as this was symbolic and descriptive to the attractive and shiny embroidery applique we used, like the constellation in the sky.
What inspired your core silhouette? Which seems to be maturing year on year.
- My strong enthusiasm for fashion and ability to highlight women's beauty and silhouette have been at the core of my interest.Women dressed by myself are offered aesthetic cuts coupled with a great attention to detail revealing their potent character
Tell us about the Ziad Nakad woman.
- The woman of Ziad Nakad is a very feminine, elegant woman who has a strong personality that catches everyone’s attention the moment she walks into a room.
What fabrics and elements do you enjoy working with?
- Transparent airy fabric like tulle, lace, chiffon
What’s more important to you, tradition in the craftsman process of Couture or innovation with new materials?
- It’s a combination between the tradition of the know-how in couture with the innovation with new materials and techniques.
Whom do you create for?
- I create for the woman that has a beautiful transparent character, fresh and modern
What inspires your creations?
- I am inspired directly from the individual woman and her genuine charm
Who is your ultimate muse?
- I am inspired via everything that portrays the woman in her most beautiful appearance.

- Much more international presence as the brand is rapidly expanding, especially within the USA and the UAE.
